We provide fresh, sustainably caught seafood to our coastal communities.
As owners / operators of the fishing vessel, Blue Bayou, we want to bring you the highest quality seafood.
Our captain, Jordan Belveal, is a fourth-generation fisherman, who has always been passionate about providing fresh sustainably caught seafood to consumers.
How we started.
In March 2020 we wanted to do our part to help with fears of food scarcity on Vancouver Island during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the help of his wife, Caitlin, managing orders and emails on land while Jordan was out fishing, it quickly turned into our own version of a community supported fishery.
How we work.
During the main fishing season, April - October, we bring whole fresh fish to our local communities. As Jordan heads out on a trip, we email our community members to see if they would like some fish from the trip.
Once the order is confirmed and deposit received we send email updates on how the fishing is going and when pickup will be. Typically we will have pickup after each trip in the Parksville, Nanaimo.
Once in the spring and once in the fall, we will bring the boat down for deliveries and are able to stop in Sointula, Powell River and Hornby Island in addition to our regular stops.
When people come to pickup their fish we weigh the fish, deduct the deposit made and take payment for the rest. We always have a debit and credit card machine with us and can accept cash (although often don’t have change available).
You can make sure you get our community emails by filling in our Fish Wish List here.
We are licensed to sell fresh whole fish right off the boat but unfortunately due to health regulations are unable to fillet our own fish. The local certified processors who are able to fillet the fish are not able to accommodate our smaller orders. So, we are unable to provide fillets at this time.
